About ECP

At ECP, we value the family dynamic which has shaped our company from the very beginning. Through our dedicated staff we have always taken the team approach in all facets of our business. Developing long lasting partnerships based on trust and integrity, we embrace every opportunity to provide a superior service with each new venture. Coupled with superior service, we believe dependability and customer satisfaction are paramount to our reputation.

Past and Present

In business for over 25 years, ECP began operation with the belief that by utilizing building science concepts, buildings could become more energy efficient. In May, 1992, Mary Ann and Randy Whisher founded Energy Conservation Professionals, implementing these concepts in the form of building envelope retrofits, a model not widely practiced at the time. Operating out of home, working with a van and some tools, selling the idea while at the same time implementing the solutions, the company began to take shape.

After 6 years of selling the concept while completing projects, the company incorporated as ECP, Building Envelope Specialists Inc. in September of 1998. Developing a larger client base, ECP began expanding to meet the demands of the growing industry. Offering innovative solutions while diversifying our products to include blown-in cellulose and spray applied polyurethane foam insulation, raised the demand for our services throughout the market.

Today, we are proud to be recognized as a certified woman owned business by both, New York State and the Women Owned Business National Council. Having completed work in over 2,500 buildings, ECP operates out of an 8,000 square foot facility, which is home to our mobile fleet. Servicing the northeast United States and beyond, we partner with major ESCOs and construction groups alike, providing leading design-build and construction services for our valued clients.

The Pioneers

Maryann Whisher

As a property manager, she and husband, Randy, co-owned Randall Whisher Properties while living in California. A move across country to New York State presented opportunity as she and Randy founded Energy Conservation Professionals, a specialty construction business focusing on building envelope weatherization. Incorporating as ECP, Building Envelope Specialists Inc. in the late 1990s Mary Ann held past positions as Secretary, Treasurer, Chief Executive Officer, and Vice President. Gaining distinction as a certified Woman Owned Business Enterprise at both the state and national level, Mary Ann presently holds the position of President at ECP. When not overseeing company operations, her passion for creating and baking cakes, fills some of her downtime. A love of winter travel and summertime boating helps to fill the remainder. With one daughter and three sons, all leading their careers, Mary Ann resides in AuSable Forks, NY with husband, Randy.

Randy Whisher

Retired Co-Founder/President

Graduating from Ithaca College with a Bachelor degree of Industrial Business Management, Randy relocated to California from New York. He began his career setting up manufacturing facilities as Director of Manufacturing at Wilson Laboratories. As a co-owner, he and wife, Mary Ann, started Randall Whisher Properties, owning and managing residential properties while still in California. Moving back home to New York State, Randy began working for the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity (JCEO) as Director of Weatherization. Performing energy audits on a daily basis, he learned even more about energy loss issues throughout the building structure. Further educating himself in the field, he acquired Building Science training at the Florida Solar Energy Center in Cocoa, Florida. Following the training, he believed buildings could become more energy efficient by utilizing building science methods, in the form of building envelope retrofits. Though there were still many unknowns in this particular field, Randy’s determination to make a substantial impact helped drive the industry in the northeast. Taking great pride in being a pioneer and leader of the energy efficiency movement, Randy, with wife Mary Ann laid the solid foundation for sustaining an accomplished business organization since 1992. Randy’s love of the outdoors, travel, and boating, coupled with a passion for rehabbing and tinkering on classic cars occupies his time, while enjoying retirement.
